Transit : Our observation

On Tuesday we observed in the Vsetin's Observatory where some of us attend the astronomical group. On the whole, the weather was with us, even though The Sun was not visible from time to time because of the cloud amount. The beginning and the ending turned out the best, because at the moment of the 1st contact it was almost clear. The 2nd contact, however, was visible quite badly, but for the rest of the observation the clouds did not hinder us anymore. The end of the phenomenon, so the 3rd and the 4th contact, was visible beautifully.

Tools

For the transit's observation we used this technology:

observation with refractor

Account

We recorded the transit on VHS with a camcorder situated on the telescope's construction in the cupola taking the transit's projection and from this camcorder, individual photographs were taken. Every 5 minutes they were recorded on the official website of our observatory. (vsetin.astronomy.cz). By live broadcast, the phenomenon was projected in the lecture theatre, as well, but the turnout was not so high, so it was not necessary. Further, the photographs were taken by the assistance of a digital camera, which took the photos through the reflecting telescope. Rather for documentation of the observation itself, there was our team cameraman, who recorded mainly the "surrounding bustle" , but with combination of the welding glass and a disquette, surprisingly good photographs of the phenomenon itself were taken. You can find all the picture materials taken by us in the gallery.

Attractions

With the purpose of the observation of the Venus' transit over the Sun disc, many people came to the observatory, together with the school classes they were about 400. Even the city manager Jiri Cunek came to see the phenomenon, he even photographed with our team. A couple of members of the astronomical group gained experience by provision of an interview for the television.
