The first one, who speculated about a possibility of seeing Venus in front of the Sun (and who was also able to calculate that) was Johanes Kepler. Unfortunately he died only a year before he could have seen it in reality.
The first observer of the Venus`s transit, was Jeremiah Horrocks. It is said that he missed the beginning and the end because of being busy.
A French astronomer Jean Chappe d`Auteroche decided to measure the transit from Siberia. His long voyage , which started in Paris, was full of problems. It took five months and during this time he lost half of his equipment.When he could have had a rest finally, problems with the natives of Tobolsk had appeared because they blamed him for doing something bad with their Sun.
The discoverer of the black drop effect is the glorious Russian astronomer Michail Lomonosov (1711-1765)
An American astronomer David Rittenhouse got so excited by the transit observation that he fainted and didn`t finish all planned measurements.
The transit from the year 1882 has its own music composition, it is The Venus`s Transit March, composed by John Philip Sousa.
