Venus transit 2004

These pages are dedicated to the space event that we could see 8.th June 2004. It was something amazing to look at not only for astronomies and scientists, but even for usual people, that were watching at the sky with the same interest, like looking at the total eclipse of the Sun or a comet moving in the neighborhood of the Earth. The transit itself is unusual, because in the present there is no person, who remembers the last one. But we fortunately will have another opportunity to see it one more time in the year 2012. In the past astronomies used this event to measure the distance between the Sun and the earth, called the Astronomic unit AU. Unfortunately those times they didn’t have enough technologies to do it precisely. Nowadays its not so important the measurement, because of the radar, which is more accurate. So it might was for us another good reason to go out and look at the sky.

On these pages you will find pictures, taken during the transit and a brief history of the observation in the past. You have a possibility to do save this pages into your computer to watch them off-line in the section download.
